Fridays @ One - Edith Windsor: An Unlikely Activist

From private citizen to documentary film star to Supreme Court petitioner who overturned the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), Edith (Edie) Windsor became a gay rights and feminist icon in her ninth decade. We discuss the informative and poignant documentary, Edie and Thea: A Very Long Engagement, about her life with Thea Spyer, her partner of almost 50 years, with a conversation between Edie and her attorney, Roberta Kaplan. They trace their odyssey through the court system, resulting in United States v. Windsor, the 2013 landmark decision that struck down DOMA.
